Ceramic Coating · Elgin & the Fox Valley

Ceramic Coating, done in your driveway.

A ceramic coating is a liquid layer of protection that bonds to your paint and leaves it glossier, slicker and a lot easier to keep clean. Giancarlo applies it at your home in Elgin and across the Fox Valley, after the paint has been properly prepped.

What a ceramic coating actually does

A ceramic coating is a liquid that cures into a hard, clear layer on top of your clear coat. Water beads up and sheets off. Dirt, salt and bugs have a harder time sticking, so washes go faster and you need fewer of them. The paint also gets UV and chemical resistance, which slows down the fading and oxidation you see on cars that live outside.

Here is what it does not do. It will not make your car scratch-proof, it will not stop a rock chip, and it does not mean you never wash the car again. A coating is protection and easier maintenance. It is not armor, and anyone who sells it as armor is overselling it.

Prep matters more than the bottle

A coating locks in whatever is underneath it. If the paint has swirl marks, water spots or haze, the coating seals those in for years. So every coating starts with a deep exterior clean, paint decontamination to pull out bonded iron and grime, and a surface prep wipe-down so the coating bonds to clean clear coat and nothing else.

On most cars that have been driven for a while, we recommend correcting the paint first. Our most popular package pairs a two-step paint correction with the ceramic coating, so the finish you are locking in actually looks right. You can read how that works on the paint correction page.

Ceramic coating and Illinois winters

Around here, the biggest threat to your paint is the half of the year when the roads are white with salt. Brine sticks to bare paint and keeps working on it between washes. On a coated car it rinses off far more easily, so less of it sits on the finish. Wheels are the same story: brake dust bakes onto uncoated wheels, and a wheel coating lets it wipe off.

The best times to coat are in the fall before the salt trucks come out, or in the spring once the salt is gone and the paint can be fully decontaminated.

How long it lasts

A professionally applied ceramic coating typically lasts 2 to 5 years, depending on the product, how the car is driven and how it is looked after. A ceramic spray coating is a lighter option that lasts roughly 6 to 12 months. If you want something between a wax and a full coating, the spray is a good place to start.

Coated cars still need washing. The difference is that a quick, gentle wash does most of the work. If you want us to handle that part, look at our maintenance plans.

Done at your place

Coating is applied wherever the car lives, anywhere in our service area, from Elgin and St. Charles to Schaumburg. We need access to a water source and ideally a standard 110V outlet for the polishers. The coating has to stay dry while it cures, so we plan the appointment around the weather. If you have a garage, that helps.

FAQ

Ceramic coating questions

How much does ceramic coating cost?

A full ceramic coating is quoted per vehicle, because the price depends on the size of the car, the condition of the paint and how much correction it needs. Most quotes come back within 24 hours. If you want a lighter option, a Ceramic Spray Coating add-on is $160 to $180.

How long does ceramic coating last?

A professionally applied ceramic coating typically lasts 2 to 5 years depending on the product, how the car is used and how it is maintained. A ceramic spray coating lasts roughly 6 to 12 months.

Do I need paint correction before ceramic coating?

If the paint has swirl marks, light scratches or haze, yes. The coating seals in whatever is underneath it. That is why our most popular package pairs two-step paint correction with the ceramic coating.

Does ceramic coating stop scratches and rock chips?

No. A coating adds gloss, water beading, UV and chemical resistance, and makes the car much easier to clean. It does not make paint scratch-proof and it will not stop a rock chip.

Can you ceramic coat boats and aircraft too?

Yes. We apply coatings on cars, trucks and SUVs, as well as boats, helicopters and planes, using the right products for each surface. Marine and aviation work is quoted individually.
